Designer’s Diary: A Day in the Life of a Luxury Aviation Interior Designer

Ever wondered what a day in the life of an aviation interior designer really looks like? It’s a rhythm of beauty, movement, and purposeful creativity. At Aeroview Design Co., no two days are ever the same, but every single one is grounded in heart and intention. From sunrise by the runway to quiet moments of design magic, come step inside a typical day in my world.

Morning Rituals & Inspiration on the Runway

My day starts early—before the emails roll in and the calls begin. I step outside with my cowboy corgis, who happily romp in the grass while I soak in the morning stillness. If the sky is clear, planes begin taking off in the distance, their engines a soundtrack I’ll never grow tired of. These few quiet minutes remind me why I love what I do—designing homes that feel just as elevated and full of possibility.

Coffee First, Then Creativity

Before the design whirlwind begins, I head to my favorite coffee shop. I usually order something seasonal (peppermint or lavender anything, please), check my schedule, and scroll through inspiration. I might jot down a quick idea or voice-note something I want to explore later. These few moments help me find my rhythm—it’s like a reset button before the fun begins.

Sample Runs, Site Visits & Mood Board Magic

Once I’m fueled up, it’s time to hit the ground running—sometimes literally. From grabbing quartzite slabs for a bathroom project to selecting the perfect aviation-blue velvet for a client’s lounge, my car becomes a mobile design studio. I love visiting project sites too. Whether it's a hangar home in progress or a pilot’s retreat near completion, seeing the vision come to life is always thrilling.

Back at the studio, I dive into mood boards. Some days I spread everything across the floor. Other days, I’m layering textures digitally. Every combination, every finish, is a step toward telling my client’s story with depth and meaning.

Client Presentation Prep

Design is where intuition meets precision. When prepping for a client presentation, I walk through each detail with care—from how the stone veining flows through the space to how lighting enhances the feel. It’s about capturing both who they are and how they want to live. No two designs are ever the same, and that’s what makes it exciting.

In-Between Moments (Where the Magic Happens)

Truthfully? Some of my best ideas hit when I least expect them. A great combo might come to mind while I’m flipping through a vintage aviation book or driving between meetings. I keep a notebook—and voice memos—close so nothing gets lost.

Music is always playing. So are prayers. And I’ll never say no to a midday cuddle from one of my corgis. These little resets keep my energy up and the creativity flowing.

Ending the Day Grounded

Once the last emails are sent and the studio is tidied, I take a deep breath and wind down. If the Texas weather’s kind, I’ll lift the hangar door and sit with my husband—sometimes quietly, sometimes catching up, always appreciating the peace. The planes pass overhead. The corgis stretch in the grass. And I feel thankful all over again for this wild and wonderful life.

Conclusion

Being a luxury aviation interior designer is about more than creating beautiful spaces—it’s about designing homes that reflect bold lives, grounded dreams, and the beauty of flight. This work brings me so much joy, and I’m deeply honored to craft spaces that feel like home in every sense of the word.

Thank you for spending a day with me. I hope it gave you a little glimpse into the heart behind the design.
